One online platform to manage, collaborate and pay all your freelancers. That is BUBTY, the very first freelance management system in the Netherlands that will go live this summer. The startup started in corona time and has just raised 300,000 euros to further develop the platform.
BUBTY was created by Lee Willougby and Benjamin Schriel. Two young entrepreneurs (24) who solve a problem that more and more companies are feeling: the hassle of working with freelancers. "The tool makes working with freelancers much easier. You can compile your own freelance database, easily find the right competencies for a specific job, immediately see who is available and also arrange the payment," says Willougby.
Flexible workforce under your own management Finding a freelancer in many cases costs money, many companies even use external recruiters for this. However, this is unnecessary in many cases because the company and its employees know many good freelancers within their network. These freelancers are not yet centrally managed and stored, so they are slowly but surely disappearing from view. BUBTY believes there is a need for an environment where you can find your current and former freelance contacts. As a result, BUBTY not only makes the process easier, but also a lot cheaper." You build up a database yourself, so you don't always have to look for suitable freelancers for an assignment. Either yourself or through an external party that charges a fee for this. With BUBTY you simply have the flexible shell of your company under your own management."
Software in development The idea for BUBTY was born when Willougby and Schriel started their own digital agency. Gradually they worked with more and more freelancers and experienced the hassle that comes with it. What skills does someone have? When is it available? What is the rate? "Those were questions that kept playing. Then the corona crisis came and we started working on software to solve this problem. Other companies quickly showed interest and so the ball started rolling." BUBTY is suitable for all companies that regularly hire freelancers. Investors on board Willougby and Schriel spent almost a year and a half developing BUBTY. As of today, the first companies will start doing this. With the feedback that rolls out there, the startup can continue to improve the freelance management system. "In the first phase we paid for everything out of our own pocket, but now it is time for the next step. In recent months we have been in contact with many interested investors. With Vivacy (from Marielle van der Zwan) and Definition of Ready (Investeringsfonds ) we now have investors on board that suit us and the phase of our company. "The nice thing about these investors is that they not only provide the funding, but also really think along and advise us," says Willougby. All this knowledge is used. to get BUBTY ready for the next phase.

Dit is echter in veel gevallen onnodig omdat het bedrijf en zijn werknemers binnen hun netwerk veel goede freelancers kennen. Deze freelancers worden alleen nog niet centraal beheerd en opgeslagen, waardoor ze langzaam maar zeker uit beeld raken. BUBTY gelooft dat er behoefte is aan een omgeving waar je je huidige en voormalige freelance contacten kunt terugvinden. BUBTY maakt hierdoor het proces niet alleen eenvoudiger, maar ook nog eens een stuk voordeliger."Je bouwt namelijk zelf een database op en hoeft voor een opdracht dus niet steeds op zoek naar geschikte freelancers. Zelf of via een externe partij die daarvoor een fee rekent. Met BUBTY heb je de flexibele schil van je bedrijf gewoon in eigen beheer."
Software in ontwikkeling Het idee voor BUBTY werd geboren toen Willougby en Schriel hun eigen digital agency startten. Gaandeweg werkten ze met steeds meer freelancers en ervaarden het gedoe wat daarbij komt kijken. Welke skills heeft iemand? Wanneer is hij beschikbaar? Wat is het tarief? "Dat waren vragen die telkens weer speelden. Toen kwam de coronacrisis en zijn we gaan werken aan software om dit probleem op te lossen. Al snel toonden andere bedrijven interesse en zo is het balletje gaan rollen." BUBTY is geschikt voor alle bedrijven die regelmatig freelancers inhuren.
Investeerders aan boord Willougby en Schriel hebben bijna anderhalf jaar gewerkt aan de ontwikkeling van BUBTY. Vanaf vandaag gaan de eerste bedrijven hiermee van start. Met de feedback die daar uitrolt, kan de startup het freelance management systeem blijven verbeteren. "In de eerste fase hebben we alles uit eigen zak betaald, maar nu is het tijd voor een volgende stap. De afgelopen maanden is er met veel geïnteresseerde investeerders contact geweest. Met Vivacy (van Marielle van der Zwan) en Definition of Ready (Investeringsfonds) hebben we nu investeerders aan boord die passen bij ons en de fase van ons bedrijf. “Het leuke van deze investeerders is dat zij niet alleen de funding verzorgen, maar ook echt meedenken en ons adviseren”, aldus Willougby. Al deze kennis wordt gebruikt om BUBTY klaar te stomen voor de volgende fase.
Over ons BUBTY is een software, die bedrijven helpt met het managen van de freelance schil. Bedrijven kunnen binnen deze software een eigen talent pool opbouwen, freelancers uitnodigen voor opdrachten en facturen en betalingen automatiseren. Dit bespaard bedrijven zowel tijd als geld.
